A brief history of German SturmTiger ( Heavy Assult Gun Tank )
Sturmtiger is the common name of a World War II German assault gun built on the Panzer VI Tiger I chassis and armed with a large naval rocket launcher, the 38 cm Raketen-Werfer RW61 L/5.4. Its primary task was to provide heavy fire support for infantry units fighting in urban areas.
The few vehicles produced fought in the Warsaw Uprising, the Battle of the Bulge and the Battle of the Reichswald. The vehicle is also known under the names Tiger-M?rser, Sturmm?rser Tiger and Sturmpanzer VI. the legendary "Storm Tiger" ("Sturmtiger"), enjoys great popularity all over Europe.
Because of his specific shape he stands out from classic tank models such as Tiger I or Panther. This model is the ideal complement for everyone looking for something real special and beyond normal standard.
It's boxy design:
The Sturmtiger was based on the late model Tiger I, keeping its hull and suspension. The front of the Tiger's superstructure was removed to make room for the new fighting compartment housing the rocket launcher. This was located directly at the front of the vehicle, giving it a boxy appearance.
Compared to the regular Tiger tank, the Sturmtiger was much shorter, only 6.28 metres (20.6 ft) compared to the Tiger's 8.45 metres (27.7 ft), due largely to the fact that it hadn't the protruding main gun of the latter. It also was slightly lower than the Tiger, 2.85 metres (9.4 ft) compared to 3 metres (9.8 ft).
About this tank !
Matorro did a very good job in replicating the details in this tank, one of them are the rocket missle transport lifter. It is not shown in the picture, but it comes with the package. The reason why the solder needs this lifter because every Sturm Tiger tank can only carry up to 14 pcs of missle and each of them weight about 345 to 351 Kg. It will be far easier to life the missle up to the compartment with this device.
It was told that after Russian had conquered new battle field, they would turn the building into fortress, this so called "Fortification". The German, on the other hand, discovered that they were going to need more destructive weapon to against the fortification and therefore, it triggered the born of Sturm Tiger. It may not be the most impressive tank in the WWII history, but it is absoutely a collectable piece.
